The Best Free Apps for Flipping Stuff

I started flipping a few years ago and it completely changed my life. What began as a little extra cash turned into something that replaced my job and gave me more time with my family.

You don’t need a pile of tools to do it. These are the apps I use the most. They’re all free to start and easy to use.

Facebook Marketplace

Facebook Marketplace is where I do most of my flipping, for buying and selling. It has listings for almost anything, you can see what’s nearby, check how long something’s been listed, and message sellers directly. It’s also the best place to learn what moves fast in your area.

Good for: buying and selling almost everything locally.

Watch out for: the algorithm is unreliable, so you’ll miss deals if you only scroll. See Three Ways to Find Deals.

Nextdoor

Nextdoor connects you with your neighborhood and nearby areas. It isn’t built as a selling platform, so listings are more casual and get overlooked. You’ll find a lot of stuff people are giving away or selling cheap.

Good for: freebies and cheap local stuff that isn’t posted anywhere else.

Watch out for: it’s less regulated than Marketplace, so there can be more scams. Read How to Spot a Facebook Marketplace Scam. The same red flags apply.

Freebie Alerts

Freebie Alerts gathers free listings from different sites into one feed and sends you a notification when something matching your search shows up. It’s simple, it has a huge user base, and it shows you things you’d miss checking just one app.

Good for: starting with no money. See How to Flip Free Stuff.

Watch out for: it only finds free items, so it won’t help much if your niche is something like Xboxes or cars.

DealScout

DealScout lets you set a keyword and price filter, then sends an alert when a matching item gets listed. It finds free stuff too, but the price filter is what makes it useful for flipping, since most deals aren’t free, they’re just underpriced. There’s a free plan, and paid plans check more often.

Good for: being first to underpriced paid listings without living on your phone.

Watch out for: setup matters. Bad keywords mean junk alerts. Use How to Set Up Deal Alerts.

Which ones should you start with?

  • Brand new, no budget: Marketplace + Nextdoor + Freebie Alerts

  • Ready to flip regularly: add DealScout so you catch cheap paid listings first

  • Flipping cars: add a VIN check service and an OBD2 code reader. See How to Flip Used Cars.

Have a tool you love that isn’t on here? Email me. I’m always looking.
